Creativity

Dear Parents,

It’s the fourth week of class and everything is running smoothly. Everyone is starting to get the rhythm of things. We are having a Creative Pictures Contest for this Fun Friday. Each class will submit 3 creative pictures and one winner will be selected to receive a Pizza Party! We’re all excited and hope that we will win.

This week we completed:

Reading: We read “An Illusionary Tale in Opt”. It is mystical stories about people in the land of Opt. Things are not what they seem. Lines that seem to be different lengths end up being the same length. Dragon’s eyes spin and 6 cubes become 7!

Science: This week, we reviewed Chapter 1 and took the test.

Tops: We learned about using “before” and “after” for sequence of events. We also learned how to make sentences using “when” and “do” or “does”. For example, “When do you go to school? I go to school at 7 o’clock.” “When does she wake up? She wakes up at 6:30.”

Individual Student Comments:

Joe had a little trouble with some of the grammar work. But he is improving on writing sentences properly.

Richard is great at finishing his work quickly and quietly.

Shawn is the youngest in class but is usually one of the first to finish his work!

Steven is doing well in class and usually finishes his work quickly.

Willy is doing well in class. He is usually the first to finish all his work.

Secret question #3:

What are some ways that you can help your parents save money?

Have a great weekend!

Little Chefs

Dear Parents,

It’s the third week of class. Almost everyone got a great score on the quiz. We are going to be cooking in our classes for fun day. Teacher Peter will teach us how to make rye balls. It’s always fun to make our own food!

This week we completed:

Reading: We read “Phoebe and the Spelling Bee” this week. It is about a girl Phoebe who was afraid of the spelling bee her was having. She pretended to be sick and even lied to her best friend Katie. In the end she got an award for best imagination even though she did not win the spelling bee.

Science: This week, we finished lesson 3 of chapter 1. We learned about the life cycle of plants. They begin life, grow, develop, reproduce, and then die. There are 2 main kinds of plants – flowering plants and conifers. Flowering plants produce seeds in their flowers and conifers produce seeds in their cones.

Tops: We learned about using “before” and “after”.

Individual Student Comments:

Joe is doing well in class and finishes his work fairly quickly.
Richard is great at reading.
Shawn is always the first to finish his work and he makes very few mistakes.
Steven also finishes his work quickly and quietly.
Willy is great at reading and finishes his work very quickly.

September 11th

Hi Parents!
Well, another week has almost finished and here we are again...This week we learned about the parts of a plant in science class. In reading we read.......... we also started working in our grammar books this week and have been doing review of basic sentence structures and what makes "good"a sentence.
Willy is doing great! He's always very quick to finish his work and always does an exceptional job.
Joe is doing really well. He's a little slow with his book work, but he's very talkative and eager to add to class discussions.
Steven was very interested in learning about plants this week . He had a lot of good comments and
did a great job on his class work.
Richard is very inquisitive. He always asks some challenging questions and keeps me on my toes.
And finally Shawn...He's doing very well. He always finishes his work on time and usually does a great job. He seldom needs assistance and is a big help during class time.

On a side note...Tomorrow ( September 12th ) I will be going back to the United States for two weeks. teacher Alice will be teaching while I'm away.

Hello

Hi Parents,
It's nice to finally meet all the kids. So far everyone has done a great job in class. We've only had class for 4 days now, but I'm sure everyone will do very well this year. So far this week we started reading about "Journey's" in reading and "scientific method" in science. We also started the new ESL textbook which will help the students with basic grammar.
Because we've only had 4 classes I haven't had much time with the kids to give very extensive individual comments....so far as I've observed....

Willy is very smart and a fast learner. Joe is very studious and is always eager to ask for assistance. Shawn has a great sense of humor. Steven gives it his best and Richard is a very hard worker.

Overall it should be a very fun, productive year!!
