Hi Parents!
We haven't done much book work this week on account of it being test week....On Monday we had our Reading Comprehension test. On Tuesday we did Science. On Wednesday we took a short break from testing and read and wrote some scary Halloween stories. And finally on Thursday we did the Vocabulary test for week 1-7.
I was really impressed with how well the kids did on their stories. They were all able to write some very creative, scary stories!
Richard and Jordan wrote an excellent short story about a group of scientists that explore a pyramid and get eaten by a mummy. Shawn and Ben wrote a story about a group of kids that go to a haunted school, and one of them gets....eaten! Ashley and Willy wrote a good story about a family whose car breaks down and they all go missing......or do they???? And finally Steven, Harris and Joe wrote a haunted tale based on Sponge Bob Square Pants.

October 16, 2008

This week we were a little behind in our Tops book, so we spent most of Monday catching up on both the textbook and workbook. This week's lesson was about how often you do something. ( How often do you watch tv? I watch tv every day. ) Needles to say, this was very easy for everyone, and we were able to finish pretty quickly.
On Tuesday we reviewed reading from the past few weeks, and also got caught up on vocabulary and vocabulary sentences.
On Wednesday we started the new science lesson on parts of an animal, as well as the functions of each part. We'll continue with science on Thursday as well...

Willy is doing really well. He continues to work quickly and enjoys helping other students when necessary.

Joe fell behind with his vocabulary sentences, but he was able to work hard and get caught up. He still struggles with spelling though.

Steven is doing well. He works hard and always finishes his work on time.

Richard continues to have a lot of intelligent, interesting things to add to class discussions.

Shawn is doing well. Like Joe, he fell behind in his vocabulary sentences, but was able to finally finish.

Happy Double 10 Day

This week we did a little review, as well as reading a new story in our reading books. In the beginning of the week we read "Champions of the World", in addition, we did the accompanying work in the workbook. In grammar we studied joining two sentences with a comma and an and ( He was very tired, and he fell asleep in class. )
In Tops we reviewed daily activities and the time of day we do them. And finally in science we studied the different parts of an animal.

Everyone did very well this week. Shawn continues to do his work quickly. Joe is doing well, but he really needs some extra practice with spelling. Willy is always very quick finishing his work, but he always forgets to add a particle ( a/an/the) before the nouns in his sentences. Steven was very good this week. And finally, Richard is doing great! He finishes his work quickly and always has good answers and questions in class.

Scary Typhoons!

Dear Parents,

It’s the fifth week of class. Teacher Scott is back from his vacation but we still had combined classes this week. Glad to have him back! We did not come to school on Monday due to crazy typhoon weather. Watching the super strong winds and rain on TV was quite scary. Hope everyone stayed safe. I hope we don’t have any crazy weather for a while. We are going bowling this week for Fun Day. Believe it or not, I have never bowled in my whole life! I guess I was never interested before. Maybe I’ll try this week. Or maybe not.

This week we completed:

Reading: We read “Max Malone” this week. It is a story about 3 friends – Max, Gordy, and Austin. Austin is getting surgery so he couldn’t go get an autograph from Dusty Field. Max and Gordy got some baseballs for a cheap price and sold them for a higher price. Then they get a special signed baseball for their sick friend.

Science: This week, we started Chapter 2 lesson 4. It is about the needs of animals. They need air, water, food, and shelter. They also respond to their environment just like plants do.

Individual Student Comments:

Joe is having trouble paying attention sometimes but he tries to finish his work quickly.
Richard is very attentive and answers questions asked in class.
Shawn is doing well in class and understands most of the material taught in class.
Steven is doing well in class and finishes his work very quickly.
Willy is a great reader and finishes his work very quickly and accurately.
