Thanksgiving – Gobble Gobble Gobble!

Dear Parents,

It’s the 13th week of class. I’m back from a fun trip in Japan. It is Thanksgiving this week! “Gobble” is the sound turkeys make. This is a very special holiday in America. It’s a time when people give thanks and appreciate everything they have. Many people even give money or donate things to poor families. I will be teaching Teacher Scott’s class this week because he is teaching Teacher Peter’s class (while he is out of town).

This week we completed:

Reading: We read Spiders at Work. It is about many different kinds of spiders. The most famous spiders are the black widow spider and the tarantula. Another one that some people may know is the daddy-longlegs. It is a good spider because it is not harmful to humans and helps to catch mosquitoes and flies.

Science: This week, we completed Chapter 4. Lesson 5 is about adaptations for survival. Many animals use different methods to stay alive and safe. Some use camouflage and some use mimicry. They also have different adaptations that help them survive – such as the giraffe’s long neck to reach food that are too high for other animals. Lesson 6 is about changing ecosystems. We learned that many things can change an ecosystem – fires, floods, droughts, earthquakes, and pollution. Hunting, pollution, fires and other natural disasters can cause organisms to become endangered or extinct.
